Sarasota Coalition on Substance Abuse Town Hall Meeting

TUESDAY, MARCH 21, 2006 - 3:00 to 5:00 pm

Venice Community Center, 326 Nokomis Avenue South, Venice, Florida

 

The Sarasota Coalition on Substance Abuse (SCoSA), in cooperation with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, the Sarasota County School District, the Venice Police Department, the Sarasota Police Department and the North Port Police Department, will host its first town hall meeting to address the issue of underage drinking in Sarasota County.  The meeting will be held at the Venice Community Center on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. 

 

This town hall meeting will focus on reducing and preventing underage drinking in Sarasota County.  Topics to be discussed will include, but not be limited to:

  • Underage drinking at home-based parties

  • Parental responsibility

  • Law enforcement efforts on underage drinking in Sarasota County

  • Governmental efforts to reduce underage drinking

  • Legislative issues regarding underage drinking

  • AIM [Alcohol Impairment Measure] training program for businesses in Sarasota County that serve alcohol

  • County-wide Youth Forum on Substance Abuse - scheduled for April 27, 2006

A panel of experts will discuss the issues faced in Sarasota County with underage drinking, and the discussion will be followed with a Q&A session.  This forum is a part of the  comprehensive community drug prevention strategy that the Sarasota Coalition on Substance Abuse has had a role in creating during the last seven years.

 

The forum is FREE and open to any organizations, businesses or individuals in Sarasota County to attend and participate in.
