Our keynote speaker is award winning author and CNN News journalist

WILLIAM COPE MOYERS

William Cope Moyers, at 47, has survived an addict's journey. For more than 15 years, he suffered through alcoholism and drug addiction so severe that he finally gave up on his own life — running away from his second wife and his three children and a lucrative news job at CNN to attempt suicide-through-abuse in an Atlanta crack house in the autumn of 1994. Twelve years sober, Moyers admits that he's fortunate to be alive.
"I'm not just fortunate. I'm blessed — because I'm here despite me," says Moyers, the eldest son of renowned PBS journalist Bill Moyers. "I should be dead. I have a disease that is terminal. You either recover from it, or you die."

The young addict depicted in 'Broken' is brazen, audacious: He shares cocaine with his 15-year-old brother, carries his coke vial on the job, betrays his first wife by spending their savings on drugs, smokes crack while changing his son's diapers. Meanwhile, his famous, exasperated father is constantly reaching out in the spirit of courage and generosity — eventually beating on the crack house doors himself in hopes of finding and saving his addicted son.
